O'Malley Family Crest

Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. Beautifully arranged in this Irish coat of arms parchment is an artistic celebration of the O'Malley Irish surname. The O'Malley family crest is illustrated at the center and surrounded by famous Celtic symbols of Ireland. These illustrations are a wonderful dedication to Irish last names.

Imagine having this beautiful story of your name hanging on your living room wall for all to study over a glass of wine, or to take a glimpse at it when having your Barry's tea on the couch. There is so much to take in. This parchment is an heirloom for many generations yet to come. It's a wonderful reminder of your Irish heritage.

On your living room wall, you will always be reminded of your Irish origins and it will be a show stopper for visiting friends and family. Presenting a family coat of arms gift is a truly special gift for the home for someone special who has that unique Irish connection.

On this parchment, the Killarney lakes take center stage above the heraldic shield whilst many Irish Celtic symbols and famous monuments surround it.

Illustrated in this parchment are:

  • Book of Kells inspired artwork
  • St.Patrick
  • The Cross of Cong
  • The Ardagh Chalice
  • Killarney Lakes
  • The Irish Harp

The O'Malley Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the O''Malley family history parchment:

O’Malley  Although not very numerous, O’Malley is one of the most well known Irish names, one of those with a particularly ‘Irish’ quality about it. Even during the period when it was fashionable for the 'O' prefix to be dropped from Gaelic names this rarely occurred in the case of O’Malley. In Irish it is O’Maille, although in County Mayo it is sometimes O’Maele, which results to the Anglicised form of Melia. This may explain why claims have been made for it to be pronounced O’Mailey.  County Mayo has always been the area most closely associated with the name, and the great majority of O'Malleys are still concentrated in Connaught and particularly in Mayo itself. Their territory consisted of the baronies of Burrishoole and Murrisk. They were particularly famous as a seafaring sept as their motto proudly proclaims: ‘Terra Marique Potens’ -powerful by land and sea. This reputation lends credibility to the many  romantic tales of Grace O'Malley (1530-1600) described by writers of the times as a ‘most famous sea captain' and 'nurse of all the rebellions in the province for forty years.’  Another famous leader was Austin O'Malley (1760-1854) who fought with Humbert at Castlebar in 1798. George O'Malley distinguished himself at the Battle of Waterloo, and Patrick O'Malley, son of Austin, was a general in the French army. The Reverend Thaddeus O'Malley (1796-1877) was a priest whose unorthodox views both on ecclesiastical and political matters frequently led him into conflict. Of those who left Ireland and rose to fame in the U.S.A., Frank Ward O’Malley (1875 -1932) was a noted author and  wit.

Family Crest Parchment

Had ordered this for an 80th birthday. There was a problem getting the size frame I ordered. Aidan offered me the next size up at the same price and made sure it was hand delivered on time for the party. Great service and would definitely recommend them.
