The Molony Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the Molony family history parchment:

Molony is a completely Gaelic name derived from the Irish O'Maoldhomhnaigh meaning a descendant of a servant of the church. The Molony sept or clan originated in Kiltanon near Tulla in East Clare. They are still well represented in this area although they have also spread out to the neighbouring counties of Limerick and Tipperary. There are some Molonys in County Tipperary who do not originate from the same group but who are really O'Maolfhachtna. Two Molonys were for seventy years successive bishops of Killaloe, with its twelfth century cathedral and churches. Other Molonys of note include John O'Moloney the younger (1617-1702), a University professor in Paris and Colonel Sir James Stacpoole Moloney. The latter took part in the ill-fated attack on Montreal in 1786, when ninety-three of the one hundred who took part were killed. In America Martin Molony (1847-1929) - Irish Bord Millionaire is remembered for his generosity to deserving causes. Success on that scale could come to few, but there were many thousands of families and individuals who left Ireland for the New World with such a dream in their minds. In the nineteenth century poverty and unemployment were so rife that there must have seemed little choice out to emigrant in hope of better things. Among these were a number of Molonys. Jerry and John Moloney, from Aglis, sailed from Cork to New York in 1811 on the 'radius'. On 10th Frebruary 1848 Pat Moloney left Liverpool on the 'Sarah Sands', also bound, as most of them were for New York.

Dissatisfied

Firstly communication has been horrendous. Totally unprofessional. Secondly I ordered my shield like 5 months in advance for a 40th birthday and it comes with the totally wrong logo for one of the families. It isn’t the family shield. With only about 5 weeks left and with no response to my email looks like the birthday surprise has been ruined. I’m out of luck getting it elsewhere now due to the time restrictions. There was no communication asking if the logos were the correct ones for the families. No reply to my email to fix the mistake. Totally upset and disappointed in the service especially on the communication front.

A beautiful plaque commemorating the joining of our two families

Aidan and his team did a beautiful job creating a dual coat of arms wall plaque and included our anniversary. The workmanship is outstanding and customer service is excellent. A great organization to work with. Thank you.

Just What I Was Hoping For

The team at Gifts of Ireland did an outstanding job creating my husband's family crest shield based upon the original design. It's exactly what I was hoping for. Their team is excellent to work with and very timely in their correspondence. The family history sheet is a bonus and nice to have. Thank you!
