Hickey Family Crest

Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. Beautifully arranged in this Irish coat of arms parchment is an artistic celebration of the Hickey Irish surname. The Hickey family crest is illustrated at the center and surrounded by famous Celtic symbols of Ireland. These illustrations are a wonderful dedication to Irish last names.

Imagine having this beautiful story of your name hanging on your living room wall for all to study over a glass of wine, or to take a glimpse at it when having your Barry's tea on the couch. There is so much to take in. This parchment is an heirloom for many generations yet to come. It's a wonderful reminder of your Irish heritage.

On your living room wall, you will always be reminded of your Irish origins and it will be a show stopper for visiting friends and family. Presenting a family coat of arms gift is a truly special gift for the home for someone special who has that unique Irish connection.

The Hickey Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the Hickey family history parchment:

This is the English form of the Gaelic O’Hicidhe which is derived from the word 'Iceadh' meaning a healer or physician. The sept originated in County Clare, and northern Tipperary; they held the highly esteemed position of hereditary physicians to the O'Briens - powerful rulers of the ancient Kingdom of Thomond, even before the eleventh century these early chiefs traveled widely and were usually accompanied by their doctors who stored the knowledge and practice they gained to hand down to succeeding generations. This most prominent family, a seventeenth-century member of which was still a physician, held lands at Quin in County Clare, but, by 1641, had forfeited it to the government. In 1642 they reacquired estates at Drim. The placename Ballyhickey -'homestead of the Hickeys’ indicates another group's settlement. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, some emigrated to Europe or America, joining many other Irishmen in search of a better life. Sadly, the records testify that a certain Captain Hickey, in the Irish brigades of France, died at Laffeldt, and across the Atlantic, another captain, Thomas Hickey died of battle wounds in a Washington hospital in 1864. In the early seventeenth century the Franciscan Professor Anthony Hickey was an eminent scholar in St. Isidores, Rome and Louvain. Two eighteenth-century brothers, John, and Thomas Hickey, won renown in the field of art- the former as a sculptor, the latter, as a portrait painter.
