Hanlon Family Crest

Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. Beautifully arranged in this Irish coat of arms parchment is an artistic celebration of the Hanlon Irish surname. The Hanlon family crest is illustrated at the center and surrounded by famous Celtic symbols of Ireland. These illustrations are a wonderful dedication to Irish last names.

Imagine having this beautiful story of your name hanging on your living room wall for all to study over a glass of wine, or to take a glimpse at it when having your Barry's tea on the couch. There is so much to take in. This parchment is an heirloom for many generations yet to come. It's a wonderful reminder of your Irish heritage.

On your living room wall, you will always be reminded of your Irish origins and it will be a show stopper for visiting friends and family. Presenting a family coat of arms gift is a truly special gift for the home for someone special who has that unique Irish connection.

On this parchment, the Killarney lakes take center stage above the heraldic shield whilst many Irish Celtic symbols and famous monuments surround it.

The Hanlon Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the Hanlon family history parchment:

The Gaelic form of this name is O'Hanluain which is derived from ‘O’ meaning ‘descendant of…’ and ‘luan’ meaning 'a champion.’ This sept was counted among the most important in Ulster and has been almost exclusively associated with county Armagh throughout history. Their chieftains were Lords of Orior, the O'Hanlon territory comprising the baronies of both Oneilland and Orior. Like all the great northern tribes they were obliged to fight to defend their land; in 1493 they held off an expedition led by the famous commander, Poynings, who was aiming to subdue the two most important chiefs of east Ulster namely of O’Hanlon and McGennis. During the troubled Tudor times Sir Oghie O'Hanlon managed to maintain his position and estates by conciliation; but in the end, it was to no avail for by the close of the seventeenth century, the family, together with other Gaelic aristocracies, had been dispossessed of all its lands. Indeed, in 1675, the best-known O’Hanlon was Redmond, an infamous highwayman, and brigand whose exploits made him one of the most celebrated of the colourful band of rogues who roamed the country at that time. The Reverend John Canon O'Hanlon achieved fame of a more sober kind; he is noted for his nine volumes of 'Lives of Irish Saints' and 'Irish American History.’ In modern times a group of O'Hanlons migrated to the county Cork, so today, the name is prevalent there as well as in county Armagh. The prefix ‘O' disappeared in the period of Gaelic suppression and, unlike other names, has not been revived.

Dissatisfied

Firstly communication has been horrendous. Totally unprofessional. Secondly I ordered my shield like 5 months in advance for a 40th birthday and it comes with the totally wrong logo for one of the families. It isn’t the family shield. With only about 5 weeks left and with no response to my email looks like the birthday surprise has been ruined. I’m out of luck getting it elsewhere now due to the time restrictions. There was no communication asking if the logos were the correct ones for the families. No reply to my email to fix the mistake. Totally upset and disappointed in the service especially on the communication front.

A beautiful plaque commemorating the joining of our two families

Aidan and his team did a beautiful job creating a dual coat of arms wall plaque and included our anniversary. The workmanship is outstanding and customer service is excellent. A great organization to work with. Thank you.

Just What I Was Hoping For

The team at Gifts of Ireland did an outstanding job creating my husband's family crest shield based upon the original design. It's exactly what I was hoping for. Their team is excellent to work with and very timely in their correspondence. The family history sheet is a bonus and nice to have. Thank you!
