Mullingar Pewter
Founded in 1974 Paddy Collins, Mullingar Pewter revived the ancient craft of pewter manufacturing in Ireland. Their workshop is based in Mullingar in the midlands of Ireland. Pewter has existed since ancient Egyptian and Roman times. Pewter items are made from an alloy of tin mixed mainly with copper and antimony. Over 800 years ago, the craft of making pewter items became fashionable among the wealthy and for ceremonial purposes.
We have had great experiences touring the workshop in Mullingar. For years, tourists travelling around Ireland have take the tour of the workshop. At each stage of the making, the skilled craftspeople have their own responsibility. A popular Irish gift that they produce is the Irish mens pocket watch. Each watch has its own uniqe Celtic symbolism engraved to it and it's lovely to see the stages it goes through to be made.
If you have seen Game of Thrones, you will have seen that so many of the cast drink wine from Pewter goblets. We have curated a collection of goblets that you can also drink your favoite wine from. Recently, Peter has created a new series of medieval chess boards which have proven to be very popular. You can view a video that we made of the Chess board in the making. So take the time to view our collection and perhaps you'll like to have a drink of wine from your goblet whilst playing a game of chess!
We are delighted to have Mullingar as one of our makers of Irish gifts made in Ireland. Enjoy shopping this collection and get in touch with any questions.
