Rushes for Making St Brigids Crosses

These natural Irish rushes are harvested and prepared ready for making traditional St. Brigid’s Crosses, with each pack containing the amount needed for your chosen number of crosses.

The rushes have been gathered and prepared so they can be used to create your own traditional crosses, whether for a school, church, community group, workshop or at home.

Each rush measures approximately 25–30 cm (10–12 inches) in length. Around 12 individual rush stalks are required to make one cross, although this may vary slightly depending on how tightly the cross is woven and the individual rushes used.

Using approximately 12 rushes, the finished St. Brigid’s Cross will measure around 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter.

The rushes are supplied in packs based on the number of crosses you would like to make. For example, a pack for 10 crosses will contain approximately 120 rush stalks.

PLEASE NOTE
As these are natural rushes, the exact length, thickness, colour and appearance will vary from stalk to stalk. This natural variation is part of what gives a traditionally made St. Brigid’s Cross its character.

USING THEM
