McGinnis Family Crest

Beautifully arranged in this parchment and created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s and only rediscovered after 40 years in safe storage, we bring you a very special illustration that encompasses symbols of your Irish tribal heritage. The owner of this name is by definition a child of Ireland in culture and in blood!

On this A1 (23.4 x 33.1 inch) sized parchment, your special Irish Coat of Arms is deservedly embellished by all the many ancient Celtic inspirations of Irish artists, scholars and architects. At the centre you see the backdrop of the Kerry landscape with her scenic Killarney lakes, whilst other bordering elements are the craftsmanship of sculptors and builders who managed to create works of art with the most basic of tools. With this parchment you will see your family name as an integral part of the Irish story which will forever remain an integral part of Irish heritage.

This parchment can be an heirloom for many generations yet to come as your family thrive into the future making their own mark on history as your ancestors did. Your unique Irish family Coat of Arms is a wonderful creative reminder that your name has an Irish tribal identity with its origin, derivatives and impact on the culture of Ireland and worldwide. All of this written in Celtic calligraphy. The design inspiration is about Ireland’s story and how your family have made a mark on Ireland history.

The McGinnis Coat Of Arms Story

Read the intriguing transcription of the text illustrated on the McGinnis family history parchment:

It is from the hodle chief Sarah, who held Dal Araldhe, that this great sept is descended. Though there are many variants of the name, including Magennis and Mac Genis, each stems from the Gaelic name Mag Aonghusa meaning ‘son of Angus’. After losing much of its glory during the dark ages the sept Rose to prominence once more in the twelfth century, as Lords of Iveagh in South down. This English, the neighbouring O’ Neills or, occasionally, the Scots, but with astute policies and determination to survive, they retained their territorial power until the seventeenth century. Then, along with other members of the old Gaelic nobility. They were forced to flee the country and sell their military expertise to continental powers. Brian Magennis, second viscount Iveagh was Colonel of his own Regiment in the Austrian army, and died fighting in 1703; his brother, Roger, who died six years later, led a distinguished career in both French and Spanish armies. In 1759 the famous brewing concern, which in time was to eclipse all others in size and world- wide importance, was established. The brewery now covers a sixty acre site in Dublin- a city which has greatly benefited from McGuinness Generosity. Charles Donagh Maginnis was a much acclaimed architect born in 1867. After training in Dublin, he emigrated to America, where his most outstanding works include Trinity College Chapel, Washington, and Baltimore Cathedral, he died in 1955. Due to mis-spelling during the course of time the name is often seen as McGuinness or McGinnis.
