This is a single-decade, handmade Irish rosary with Connemara marble beads. 

The one decade design dates back to the Penal times in Ireland when it was forbidden to practice the Catholic faith in Ireland. 

This suppression only served to increase the faith of the Irish people. Priests lived in hiding and Mass was celebrated on the open hillsides. 

People found more and more ways of continuing their devotions without being detected. “An Paidrin Beag” is one result of the people’s determined ingenuity. Hidden undetected in the folds of a skirt or trouser the little rosary made the perfect solution.
