Before reviewing this jacket, I must mention how wonderful and helpful Gifts of Ireland were with my order. The jacket sold out and was no longer available several times, but whenever I emailed the company I received a quick reply to answer all of my questions regarding when it would be back in stock. Ultimately, I was able to get my hands on the “wool tweed walking jacket.” Now for the review;
Without being a “tailored” cut, the jacket is neither slim fit nor baggy. It fits very well. The length is not too long nor too short; it comes just past the waist. The herringbone is a medium pattern in size; noticeable that it’s herringbone but not distracting in any way. Make no mistake, this tweed is of the highest quality. The cuffs have a snap button closure offering two different options for either a looser or tighter fit. The inside has a very nice smooth black quilted pattern which makes it easy to slip on and off. The jacket has some rather large exterior pockets, but these are hidden with the clever cut of the fabric seams. Easily accessible, but never in the way and never taking away from the clean look of the jacket. An additional left breast interior pocket reveals a zippered closure which is always a nice option to secure a valuable. A beautiful small leather etched patch adorns a spot between the shoulder blades which reads, “Emerald Isle weaving.” Below this text, a small shamrock as a reminder that this garment was hand crafted in Ireland.
Now if you don’t know anything about Irish tweed, I highly suggest you do some research so that you can truly appreciate this aspect of Irelands heritage passed down from generation to generation.
I 100% recommend purchasing this jacket and I encourage you to avoid buying a similar style or type from somewhere else. This jacket is authentic, excellently crafted and will be sure to keep you warm whenever you’re in need to go out into the elements. Slainté
