Created by Edmond McGrath (RIP) in the 1970s, these Irish prints were rediscovered in 2020 after 40 years in safe storage. The Walsh Coat Of Arms Story

Walsh is one of the most frequently found names in Ireland and is distributed widely, although in Mayo it is the most numerous of all and Co. Kilkenny, with its Walsh mountains, is the area most closely associated with the Walshes. The name originated as a result of the Norman invasion from Wales and means simply the Welshman it was given to many of the newcomers which perhaps explains why different branches grow up over a wide area. Some of those who managed to acquire land in status established themselves at Castlebowel in Co. Kilkenny, Ballykileavan (Co. Leix) and Ballyrichmore (Co. Cork). Others were also notable at Bray and Carrickmines near Dublin. In 1588, Lawrence Walsh produced a history of the Mayo Walshes claiming their descent from Walynus, a Welshman who came to Ireland in 1169. There are many references to Walshes in both local and national records, indicating that they were often found as sheriffs, judges and army officers. Others achieved fame in various fields, including many in the churches. The Most Rev. William John Walsh was one of the most distinguished archbishop of Dublin while the Most Rev. John Walsh became archbishop of Toronto. The Rt. Rev Nicholas Walsh, murdered in 1585 by a man he had rebuked, is also remembered for introducing Irish type to the printing press as part of his project to translate the New Testament in the Irish. Other Walshes became doctors, teachers and poets while of those who emigrated, many went to America were Blanche Walsh (1873-1915) became a famous actress, and Henry Collins Walsh (1863-1927) an explorer. Others were engaged in careers which took them far and wide like Edward Walsh (1756-1832) of Waterford who, as an army surgeon, served in Holland, Canada and at Waterloo.
